The Basics
Canon: Original Character (loosely based on Japanese Mythology)
Character Name: Tsukuyomi no Mikoto

Character Details
Canon Point: Banished from Takamagahara
Species: Celestial Entity/The God of the Moon, currently a kitsune
Timeline of Important Events in Canon History:
  • After narrowly escaping from the pits of the Underworld, the god Izanagi is banished from the heavens and forced to dwell in the mortal realm. Hoping to cleanse himself from the taint of the Underworld, Izanagi begot three children: Amaterasu (the sun goddess), Susanoo (the storm god) & Tsukuyomi (the moon god).

  • Knowing that their father was banished from Takamagahara, Tsukuyomi devised a plan to reclaim the Heavens in his father's name with the help of his sister. Upon reaching Takamagahara, the siblings realize it was their mother Izanami who cast their father out. Tainted by the evils of the Underworld, Izanami seized the Heavens and became the Goddess of Death. Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu battled against their mother for the dominion of Takamagahara and eventually won.

  • In the wake of Izanami's demise, Tsukuyomi took his sister as his bride. The two married and became the new rulers of the heavens. Tsukuyomi became the God of the Moon and Amaterasu became the Goddess of the Sun. They took up the mantle their parents once worn and allowed the earth below to flourish in peace and prosperity for many eons.

  • In celebration of their union, Uke Mochi (the goddess of harvest) ventures to Takagamahara to bestow gifts upon the newlyweds. She prepared a feast for the Moon God by using her magic to cough up thousands and thousands of fish and used her own spit to create bowls of rice. To say the least, the manner in which she conjured this feast offended Tsukuyomi and he slew her.

  • When news of Uke Mochi's death reached Amaterasu, she divided the Heavens apart using their father's spear and separated herself from her brother in retaliation. Day and Night would forever live upon the opposite sides of time.

  • Tsukuyomi fell into a deep depression and terrible darkness overwhelmed the earth. Many feared that the end had come.

  • The Fox God, Inari, vowed to kill Tsukuyomi for his crimes and ascended to Takamagahara. Once Inari reached Tsukuyomi, his hatred for the Moon God had dissipated into pity. Unwilling to take his revenge upon Tsukuyomi, Inari sacrificed his divinity in hopes of rejuvenating Tsukuyomi to his former glory. The world was spared from his darkness but Inari perished in the process.

  • While reborn anew, Tsukuyomi lost a good majority of his powers and even lost his godhood. He was born again not as a god but as a kitsune instead. The Fox God had good intentions of saving his life but it came at a heavy burden. Having heard of her brother's predicament, Amaterasu decided that she would rule over both the Sun and Moon in his stead thus casting him out of Takamagahara.

  • Now banished from the heavens, Tsukuyomi was left to linger within the realm of mortals. His love for his sister rivaled his growing disdain for her as he struggles to find away to reclaim his former power.

Personality: At first glance, Tsukuyomi definitely doesn't seem like your average guy. He's polite and charming enough to somewhat mask that fact but even his good manners and genial grace can't hide how devious he is. The former god is the kind of man who will use deadly force with little hesitation in order to get rid of any obstacles in his way. He's utterly obsessed with getting his full powers back and will stop at nothing to do so, even if it means killing his own sister.

Tsukuyomi has a frank and direct way of speaking. He sometimes can come across as a tad playful. While he certainly likes to wear a smile upon his lips, that smile is actually quite deceiving. Tsukuyomi is a calculating and sometimes cruel individual who cares very little for the lives of mortals. He sees them as nothing more than just a mere nuisance. Tsukuyomi is fond of playing tricks upon others and certainly likes to instigate. While he does hold some morals such as not harming women and children, Tsukuyomi isn't above betraying a friend if it means him possibly getting a second shot at godhood.

He's ambitious and a tad shrewd. A sharp-witted man who knows how to turn the tides favorably for his benefit. He'll say and do anything that's necessary for the sake of power and detests weakness. In his opinion, only the strong survive and those not strong enough to survive should die. Tsukuyomi isn't the type to coddle others and sometimes comes across as more antagonistic than anything else. There are still some slivers of good to be found in this trickster. While he doesn't exactly exalt the notion of friendship like others do, Tsukuyomi is known to defend those he deems fit as allies. His loyalty is ultimately limited since Tsukuyomi could easily turn and betray the very same comrade he saved. However, the likelihood of him doing is somewhat slim unless this ally becomes a thorn at his side.

Tsukuyomi has a "perfect and frigid" aspect to him that can be considered a negative trait. He's more concerned about his outstanding self-image than he is about the feelings of others. In a sense, Tsukuyomi has an irritating "holier than thou" personality. He takes great joy in reminding his opponents that they're lower than him but in turn, Tsukuyomi utterly detests those who claim otherwise. He's painfully vain in this way but his vanity can be a source of amusement for others since he's such an overconfident prick half of the time. While he can be portrayed as slightly villainous, Tsukuyomi can be seen as highly traditional and quite rigid instead. He's somewhat classy despite being rather quick to offend those he deems unworthy.

Despite all of his flaws, Tsukuyomi does have an oddly gentle side to him that he desperately tries to hide. He isn't a fan of pointless violence and doesn't really go out of his way to seek battle. While he has no hesitation about killing, Tsukuyomi doesn't particularly enjoy it. It's quite messy usually and it's difficult to get the blood off white. He's contradictory at times because due to his moodiness. Sometimes he'll be more violent one day and tamer the next. Tsukuyomi has an air of unpredictability about him that is sometimes difficult to pinpoint. Just like the moon itself, he shifts in and out of particular phases but one thing that stays constant is his general arrogance.

    Abilities, Magic and Supernatural Skills/Afflictions:

Tsukuyomi is resourceful when it comes down to selecting potential allies and this resourcefulness certainly carries into battle. While he's certainly not some feckless destroyer or some overbearing powerhouse, Tsukuyomi likes to trap and snare his opponents with a combination of his magic and fast-paced swordsmanship. He's tough enough to go toe-to-toe with magically inclined opponents and even strong enough to fight mythical beasts.

    Supernatural Skills
Enhanced Agility: As one would expect, Tsukuyomi has enhanced agility, dexterity, balance and general bodily coordination that surpasses that of a mere human. With a combination of his unearthly agility and acrobatic prowess, Tsukuyomi is a deadly combatant who can wield both swords and magic with relative ease. He's also capable of deflecting bullets thanks to his quick reflexes and overall agility.

Superhuman Strength: While Tsukuyomi isn't the strongest man in the field, he's capable of flinging grown men over his shoulder with relative ease. Unfortunately, he cannot pick up boulders or chuck mountains and such at opponents. However, he is quite strong enough to break bones and dent metal with his bare hands.

Master Swordsman: As one would expect of a Japanese deity, Tsukuyomi is an excellent swordsman. While it's quite difficult to pinpoint the origins of Tsukuyomi's swordsmanship style, it's definitely likened to Jian Wu which is the art of sword dancing. Tsukuyomi's movements are elegant but violent in execution and usually quite quick. He's known for his speed and versatility in combat and can quickly overpower his opponents without much effort.

Enhanced Senses: Tsukuyomi can see from great distances more so than any ordinary human. His vision can span pretty far but it's his acute hearing that is more impressive. He can easily detect sounds that normal humans can't hear. His fox-like ears are quite sensitive to sound making it quite difficult for anyone to take him by surprise.

Astral Projection: Tsukuyomi also possesses the uncanny ability to phase through solid objects. This is a form of Astral Projection. He can temporarily phase through anything solid once he centers his magic from the Ohabari and into himself. This makes him completely impervious to attacks for a limited amount of seconds and gives him the ability to access locked rooms or such. He's also capable of phasing right through a sword strike as a means of defense. However, this ability does temporarily make him unable to attack since he's channeling all of his magic into this ability.

    Abilities & Magic
Weapon of Choice: In possession of the sword the Great Izanagi used to slay his elder sibling, Tsukuyomi wields the fabled Ame-no-Ohabari (天の尾羽張, lit. "sword of Takamagahara with blades on both sides of the tip"). The mythical blade is known for it's startling resilience in battle and its endless spiritual energy. With the Ame-no-Ohabari in his grasp, Tsukuyomi can channel the essence of its aura to summon forth powerful spells fitting of his celestial ancestry.

      Hotaru Shiden (Firefly Swordflash, 螢紫電)

Merging his spiritual energy with that of the Ohabari, Tsukuyomi creates a powerful electric current within its blade. With every strike, the sword casts a piercing lightning charge capable of reaching approximately 14000 volts more than enough to kill a man. The Hotaru Shiden can hit multiple foes at once much like a streak of lighting. If the spell is blocked, the electrical current produced by the blade can flow into the opponent's body causing their limbs to go numb momentarily. He's also capable of summoning several bolts of lightning from his sword from a long distance but the likelihood that he'll miss his target is high since the bolts are difficult to control.

Shikabane no Odori (Dance of the Dead, しかばねの踊り)

The main appeal of this attack focuses on Tsukuyomi using his magic to create multiple airborne spiritual projections of the Ame-no-Ohabari. Eight ghostly blades are formed behind him in the form of a circle linked together by what seems to be a thin glowing silver chain. Upon his command, he can "unchain" these blades and have them attack several opponents at once. The words themselves may seem like nothing more than apparitions at first but they certainly can sever flesh. Magic can be used to repel these swords but not physical shields since they're capable of phasing through steel or iron.

Sei Naru Tsuki Odori (Holy Moon Dance, 聖なる月踊り)

Typically used after sundown, Tsukuyomi can create optical illusions of himself using the moon's celestial glow. These illusions are ghostly apparitions similar to the swords he can summon but appear like opaque white shadows. These shadows mimic Tsukuyomi's movements perfectly and can slice through opponents with relative ease. If cut down, Tsukuyomi can simply summon another one of these illusions to reemerge as long as the moonlight shines upon him. He can summon about seven apparitions at a time without completely depleting his magical essence. Any more than that and Tsukuyomi risks exhaustion.

Limitations/Weaknesses: The very concept of "pain" is something absurdly foreign to him. As a deity, Tsukuyomi never felt pain but now as a lesser demon, he actually can feel the strain of combat acutely. Tsukuyomi has a ton of endurance but he certainly has his limitations. If he uses too much magic in combat, he'll risk losing consciousness. Tsukuyomi certainly can be killed since he's technically "mortal" despite appearing ageless. However, it will take some very unconventional means to kill him.
